Summer flooding, Chickens and Mushrooms

Nothing says summer like a rain storm flood! (No not really… just makes me ugh…)

The kids love splashing in it though!!
That door is on on summer projects list! It has to go so that when we do flood, the basement doesn’t!
This is ALSO on the summer project list… Making this well casing, higher and watertight so no creek water gets down into our drinking water.
Slowly making its way across the yard.
Creek or yard?!?! Watch your step, as your get waist deep in the creek.
There really is a creek bank there…. somewhere.
This girl likes to slide down the stairs on her stomach and she is SO fast at it!!

The chickens have arrived and they are so very happy with their space!! We are excited to get some eggs again!! The kids have decided to name the rooster Hagrid, so all the hens have Harry Potter themed names, but we don’t do very good remembering who is who. I know we have a Hedwig (White) and a Buckbeat(also white), and Crookshanks (Orange)

It looks so great and is going to be pretty functional too!
Corner roosts!

We have had another great mushroom season, magically popping up all over the place. We really cannot get enough of them and enjoy getting to do a little mini Fungi study every year!

Some of the first colors of autumn!

And another rainstorm brought even more flood waters. Someday, We will look back at this and laugh….

Took the precaution and plastic covered and taped the well, hoping we don’t actually get that deep…
Look like we will be adding about a foot of height to the planned bridge.

Onto the basement project! Getting the old beams out and new ones in!!

Getting temporary support walls in place before dropping the beam.
Down comes the first section!
Scabbed together… not happy with what we find, but thats why we are replacing it!
A little presswork to do, before the new piece goes up!
Ready to raise up the new piece!
Up she goes!
Looks amazing already!
Drezden doesn’t look thrilled, but he was enjoying this!

That was it for the evening, more another day! It is amazing how much time goes into something that seems so simple! But I am glad we are getting it done and doing it the right way! It will be so nice to be 1 step closer to using the 1000 sq feet we have available in the basement!
